A Yazaki Saltano Portugal é uma empresa de origem japonesa de componentes para automóveis
que está sediada em Portugal desde o fim do século XX. Com a vinda da Yazaki Saltano para
Portugal e estando num país onde a cultura é muito diferente da do seu país de origem houve um
choque cultural. Assim, com esta dissertação pretendeu-se perceber de que maneira a cultura
organizacional japonesa foi suscetível de influenciar o funcionamento da organização em Portugal.
Para o desenvolvimento desta investigação recorreu-se à metodologia de estudo de caso, através
da identificação de informações necessárias e aplicação de análise qualitativa, elaborando
entrevistas para colaboradores da Yazaki Saltano, independentemente do cargo que ocupam na
organização. Os participantes foram seis indivíduos, selecionados de forma aleatória. Através do
estudo realizado, foi possível identificar a cultura organizacional predominante na Yazaki Saltano,
os traços existentes das culturas organizacionais japonesa e portuguesa, assim como as diferenças
entre ambas.
Os resultados desta investigação mostram que a cultura organizacional predominante na
organização tem características da cultura japonesa e da cultura portuguesa, revelando uma cultura
que se foi adaptando ao longo do tempo. As culturas japonesa e portuguesa, apesar de muito
diferentes, têm alguns traços em comum e acabam por se complementar em determinados aspetos.
Desta forma, espera-se que a presente dissertação possa contribuir para a avaliação do choque
cultural associado à implementação de uma empresa em território estrangeiro, prestando atenção
ao fator da cultura como sendo um dos maiores fortes choques e barreiras à implementação de
organizações estrangeiras.
At the end of the last century, Japan occupied a very important place as one of the richest, most developed countries worldwide, having revolutionized the market and the industry through its economic growth. Yazaki Saltano Portugal is a Japanese-origin enterprise dedicated to car components that has been based in Portugal since the end of the twentieth century. When Yazaki Saltano first arrived in Portugal, being in a country with such a different culture from Japan, there was a cultural shock. Therefore, this dissertation aimed to understand in which way the Japanese organizational culture was likely to influence the functioning of the Portuguese organization. To the development of this investigation a case study methodology was used, through the identification of necessary information and the application of qualitative analysis, elaborating interviews for Yazaki Saltano workers, regardless of their job position in the organization. Participants were six individuals, randomly selected. Through this study, it was possible to identify the predominant organizational culture at Yazaki Saltano, the existing traits of the Japanese and the Portuguese organizational cultures, as well as the differences between both. The results of this investigation show that the predominant organizational culture in the organization has characteristics of the Japanese culture and the Portuguese culture, revealing a culture that has adapted throughout time. The Japanese and the Portuguese cultures, although very distinct, have some common traits and end up complementing each other in certain aspects. Hence, it is expected that the present dissertation may contribute to the evaluation of the cultural shock associated with the implementation of an enterprise in foreign territory, paying attention to the culture factor as one of the strongest shocks and barriers to the implementation of foreign organizations
