| dc.description.abstract | Braga é uma cidade milenar com uma história densa e possui uma toponímia com uma estrutura e organização muito particular que dá conta da sua história, cultura e identidade local. As ruas, praças e outros espaços urbanos da cidade são nomeados em homenagem a personalidades que pertencem à religião, históricas, eventos significativos, características da região e elementos culturais. Este projeto de mestrado em Fotografia parte do tema das toponímias contemporâneas na cidade de Braga e reflete sobre a relação da fotografia com o espaço físico das cidades, tendo como objetivo analisar a forma como os nomes de ruas, praças e outros espaços urbanos se estruturam e refletem as dinâmicas sociais, culturais e políticas da cidade. A pesquisa baseou-se numa abordagem qualitativa, utilizando fontes documentais, um inquérito à população e observação direta conducente a uma seleção de ruas. Trata-se, por um lado, de uma reflexão sobre o papel das toponímias na construção da imagem de uma cidade, e por outro, da forma como a fotografia poderá funcionar como veículo crítico/documental/artístico de transmissão das características e atmosfera dos espaços urbanos, contribuindo para uma melhor compreensão das toponímias. Neste ensaio pretende-se elaborar uma análise abrangente e crítica das dinâmicas dos espaços urbanos, destacando as relações entre toponímias, identidade, fotografia e memória na construção da paisagem urbana. Deste modo, fica patente neste ensaio o quanto a toponímia pode ou não ser um fator de expressão e de memória coletiva e identidade local. A componente prática do trabalho não se limita ao registo fotográfico de certas ruas, da sua estrutura ou características, mas visa imergir o espectador numa experiência multisensorial, permitindo que ele sinta e entenda a cidade, não apenas através de palavras, mas através de imagens e sons. A abordagem visual do projeto inclui uma série de fotografias das placas toponímicas e fotografias feitas de drone, que capturam a essência de cada rua, praça ou espaço urbano escolhido. Estas fotografias, mais do que meros registos, seriam interpretações artísticas que refletem a atmosfera e memórias associadas a cada toponímia. O projeto é também composto por pequenos vídeos feitos de drone que capturam a vida diária, os movimentos e as interações humanas em cada espaço. Isso traz uma camada adicional de compreensão, mostrando como os espaços são vividos e experienciados no dia a dia. A abordagem sonora inclui sons capturados em cada rua que refletem a sua atmosfera: o murmúrio das conversas, o som dos passos, os pássaros, a atividade comercial, etc. As imagens e sons selecionados reforçam e ilustram os pontos teóricos discutidos no ensaio. O objetivo final será criar uma exposição interativa onde os visitantes podem explorar as imagens e sons enquanto leem trechos do ensaio teórico referentes a cada topónimo. Isso permitirá uma experiência imersiva, onde o público pode conectar-se emocionalmente com a análise fornecida. O contraste entre o antigo (a história por trás da toponímia) e o novo (a vida atual da cidade) pode ser um ponto focal para discussões e reflexões, incentivando os visitantes a pensar mais profundamente sobre a cidade em que vivem e como ela evoluiu. A componente prática, tem o potencial de enriquecer significativamente a experiência do espectador, tornando o tema das toponímias mais tangível, emotivo e compreensível. Ao combinar a teoria com uma experiência sensorial, não é apenas transmitido conhecimento, mas também se permite que o público se conecte emocionalmente com as histórias e memórias que Braga tem para oferecer. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Braga is a millennial city with a dense history and has a toponymy with a very particular structure and organization that accounts for its history, culture, and local identity. The streets, squares, and other urban spaces of the city are named in honor of personalities belonging to religion, historical events, significant features of the region, and cultural elements. This master's project in Photography starts from the theme of contemporary toponymies in the city of Braga and reflects on the relationship of photography with the physical space of cities, aiming to analyze how the names of streets, squares, and other urban spaces are structured and reflect the social, cultural, and political dynamics of the city. The research was based on a qualitative approach, using documentary sources, a survey of the population, and direct observation leading to a selection of streets. It is, on the one hand, a reflection on the role of toponymies in the construction of the image of a city, and on the other hand, how photography can function as a critical/documentary/artistic vehicle for transmitting the characteristics and atmosphere of urban spaces, contributing to a better understanding of toponymies. In this essay, it is intended to develop a comprehensive and critical analysis of the dynamics of urban spaces, highlighting the relationships between toponymies, identity, photography, and memory in the construction of the urban landscape. In this way, it is evident in this essay how much toponymy can or cannot be a factor of expression and collective memory and local identity. The practical component of the work is not limited to the photographic record of certain streets, their structure or characteristics, but aims to immerse the viewer in a multisensory experience, allowing them to feel and understand the city, not only through words but through images and sounds. The visual approach of the project includes a series of photographs of toponymic plates and drone photographs, which capture the essence of each street, square, or chosen urban space. These photographs, more than mere records, would be artistic interpretations that reflect the atmosphere and memories associated with each toponymy. The project also includes small videos made from a drone that capture daily life, movements, and human interactions in each space. This brings an additional layer of understanding, showing how spaces are lived and experienced daily. The sound approach includes sounds captured on each street that reflect its atmosphere: the murmur of conversations, the sound of footsteps, birds, commercial activity, etc. The selected images and sounds reinforce and illustrate the theoretical points discussed in the essay. The final objective will be to create an interactive exhibition where visitors can explore the images and sounds while reading excerpts from the theoretical essay referring to each toponym. This will allow an immersive experience, where the public can emotionally connect with the analysis provided. The contrast between the old (the history behind the toponymy) and the new (the current life of the city) can be a focal point for discussions and reflections, encouraging visitors to think more deeply about the city they live in and how it has evolved. The practical component has the potential to significantly enrich the viewer's experience, making the theme of toponymies more tangible, emotive, and comprehensible. By combining theory with a sensory experience, not only is knowledge transmitted, but it also allows the public to emotionally connect with the stories and memories that Braga has to offer. | pt_PT |
