Abstract(s)
Este trabalho tem como finalidade trazer à memória a vida esquecida de António d' Almeida Coutinho e Lemos, Barão do Seixo, tendo como foco o seu património imobiliário. Esta personalidade da época Romântica, nasceu em Portugal numa altura de instabilidade política, fruto dos ideais iluministas que, oriundos de França, rapidamente se espalharam pela Europa, não sendo Portugal exceção.
Em primeiro lugar, faremos um levantamento dos principais acontecimentos ocorridos antes e durante a sua juventude que se crê terem influenciado a sua simpatia pelo liberalismo, e também uma
abordagem da vida económica e da sociedade de então.
Em segundo lugar, realizaremos um levantamento das suas origens durienses, abordaremos o seu casamento, não esquecendo a sua atividade profissional, como grande proprietário na Região do
Douro.
Em terceiro lugar, apresentaremos um rol dos seus bens imobiliários na Região do Douro, com o intuito de perceber como lhe chegaram às mãos e que razões contribuíram para a sua alienação.
Por último, procuraremos perceber como passou os seus últimos tempos de vida e o que sucedeu após o seu falecimento.
This essay aims to bring to memory the forgotten life of Antonio d' Almeida Coutinho e Lemos, Barão do Seixo, focusing on his real estate heritage. This personality of the romantic era was bom in Portugal at a time of political instability, as a result of the enlightenment ideals that, coming from France, quickly spread across Europe, Portugal being no exception. Firstly, we will make a summary of the main events that occurred before and during his youth that are believed to have influenced his sympathy for liberalism, and we will also make a survey of the economy and society at the time. Secondly, we will reveal his Douro origins as he comes from a family with roots and properties in the Douro region and will try to make a survey of his professional activity, as a great regional landowner that he was. We will also try to examine his real estate in the Douro region, to understand how it carne and how he lost it and to whom. Finally, we will try to understand how he spent his last years oflife, what happened after his death and what consequences it had for his family.
