Abstract(s)
A automação robótica de processos (RPA) está a crescer no panorama digital
contemporâneo e incorpora uma ligação transformadora entre a inovação tecnológica e a
eficácia operacional. Este trabalho navega pelos domínios multifacetados da adoção da
RPA, convergindo para questões de investigação fundamentais. A primeira é discernir as
motivações, os benefícios, os desafios e os fatores críticos de sucesso que envolvem a
RPA e a sua adoção. A segunda é identificar as principais características das ferramentas
de RPA disponíveis no mercado e medir a sua prevalência nas implementações existentes.
Com base numa metodologia de investigação em duas fases, uma revisão incisiva da
literatura delineia os conhecimentos académicos e industriais existentes sobre RPA,
fornecendo uma base de conhecimento fundamental. Em seguida, um estudo de caso
aprofundado da SEG Automotive, incluindo entrevistas qualitativas e análise de
documentos, fornece informações empíricas sobre o envolvimento da RPA no mundo
real.
Os resultados revelam uma multiplicidade de motivações e benefícios, com destaque para
as reduções de custos e o aumento da satisfação dos trabalhadores, ao mesmo tempo que
revelam desafios e fatores críticos de sucesso, nomeadamente a resistência à mudança e
a seleção de processos, respetivamente. Além disso, esta investigação revela uma
tendência para funcionalidades específicas de RPA na prática, como a automação não
assistida e o suporte de API, forjando um nexo entre a capacidade da ferramenta e a
utilidade organizacional.
A convergência de conhecimentos teóricos e práticos nesta tese, não só enriquece o
diálogo académico em torno da RPA, como também fornece às organizações uma lente
estratégica através da qual podem navegar nas suas jornadas de RPA, entrelaçando
capacidades tecnológicas com imperativos organizacionais.

This work navigates through the multifaceted domains of RPA adoption, converging on pivotal research questions. The first one is discerning the motivations, benefits, challenges, and critical success factors enveloping RPA and its adoption. The second one, is to identify key features of the RPA tools available in the market and measure their prevalence in existing implementations. Based on a two-stage research methodology, an incisive literature review delineates existing academic and industrial insights on RPA, providing a foundational knowledge scaffold. Next, an in-depth case study of SEG Automotive, including qualitative interviews and document analysis, provides empirical insights into the involvement of RPA in the real world. The findings illuminate a multiplicity of motivations and benefits, prominently featuring cost reductions and increased employee satisfaction, whilst also surfacing challenges and critical success factors, particularly the resistance to change and the process selection, respectively. Additionally, this research reveals a penchant towards specific RPA functionalities in practice, such as unattended automation and API support, forging a nexus between tool capability and organizational utility. The convergence of theoretical and practical insights within this thesis, not only enriches the academic dialogue surrounding RPA but also provides organizations with a strategic lens through which to navigate their RPA journeys, intertwining technological capabilities with organizational imperatives.
