Abstract(s)
The production of components for the automotive industry is an activity with increasing business volume in Portugal, where perceived problems of quantity, quality, delivery time and competitiveness are definitely outdated and the main brands of the automotive industry fully rely on the potential of the national industry. This implies other needs in terms of equipment, which must be increasingly automated, in order to guarantee production rates appropriate to the orders, and to guarantee the quality standards understood as standard by the market. The production of metallic command cables for the actuation of various devices in passengers vehicles has numerous challenges to overcome, which have been systematically studied and improved. When they take on longer lengths, such as the fuel cap drive or the trunk lid, the injection equipment has some problems to deal with this excessive length. This work aimed to find a solution to handle metallic command cables with large lengths, without having to allocate manpower to the equipment only to separate the cables that are plaited to each other. It has been designed a very economical and versatile solution, which allows its application in existing equipment, improving its performance, as well as in new equipment, where it works as an option for clients that have to deal with this type of situations. Due to the limited time frame of this project, it has not yet been implemented, but awaits effective customer orders to be implemented as soon as possible.
