| dc.description.abstract | Através deste documento, escrito no âmbito no segundo ano do Mestrado em Tradução e Interpretação Especializadas pelo ISCAP, pretendi sobretudo aprender, mas, igualmente, demonstrar e dar a conhecer o funcionamento de uma empresa de traduções dentro do mercado em que está inserida. Essa empresa foi a JABA Translations. Para o efeito foram estudados e analisados diversos parâmetros que regem o quotidiano dos profissionais que todos os dias fazem da JABA Translations uma referência na tradução técnica para a língua portuguesa. Assim, inicialmente, foram levantadas informações sobre a própria organização, como os serviços que oferece ao mercado, o funcionamento da sua estrutura ou as suas metodologias de trabalho. Sendo 2019 precisamente o ano do vigésimo aniversário da JABA Translations foi ainda incluída uma entrevista com o seu dono – Joaquim Alves. De seguida foram revistas as principais ferramentas tanto de tradução como de Gestão de Projetos que permitiram à empresa permanecer competitiva no mercado ao longo dos últimos 20 anos. Foram, pois, analisadas com algum detalhe as vantagens e desvantagens da utilização de software como o memoQ, o Across ou o Plunet. Estando eu, pela primeira vez, inserido num departamento de tradução técnica aproveitei, igualmente, para estudar os benefícios decorrentes da utilização de memórias de tradução e de guias de estilo sem os quais, hoje em dia, seria impossível a qualquer empresa permanecer competitiva no campo das traduções. Seguidamente, e tirando pleno partido do tempo em que colaborei com o departamento de alemão técnico da JABA Translations, foram realizadas diversas traduções técnicas, das quais apenas algumas foram incluídas neste documento. | dc.description.abstract | By means of this Final Paper, written in the context of the second year of the Master in Specialized Translation and Interpretation at ISCAP, above all, I intended to learn, but also to show and to raise awareness to the functioning of a translations company within the market it takes part. This company was JABA Translations. To this end, various parameters that rule the day-to-day lives of the professionals that daily make JABA Translations a reference of technical translations into the Portuguese language were studied and analysed. Thus, firstly, information on the company itself, was gathered. This includes the services it offers the market, the functioning of its structure or even its working methodologies. Being 2019 precisely the year of the 20th anniversary of JABA Translations, an interview with Joaquim Alves, its owner, was included. Afterwards, the main translation and project management tools that allowed the company to remain competitive in the market for the last 20 years were reviewed. To this effect, the advantages and disadvantages of the use of software like memoQ, Across or Plunet were analysed in some detail. Being this the first time I was included in a department of technical translations, I also seized the opportunity to study the benefits deriving from the use of translation memories and style guides, tools without which, nowadays, it would be impossible for any company to remain competitive in the field of translations. Taking full advantage of the time I collaborated with the department of technical German at JABA Translations I undertook numerous technical translations, which some were included in this document.
