No âmbito da unidade curricular de Projeto Final do 2º ano do Mestrado em
Comunicação Audiovisual – Especialização em Produção e Realização Audiovisual, da ESMAD,
surgiu uma oportunidade de desempenhar a função de primeiro assistente de realização num
dos filmes de Projeto Final aprovados: Henry!, um filme sobre uma mulher presa num coma
provocado pelos comportamentos abusivos e violentos do namorado com quem vivia, escrito e
realizado pela Deborah Findeiss. Este ensaio, fruto do processo de investigação sobre a
assistência de realização e do trabalho feito ao longo da pré-produção e produção de Henry!,
está dividido em dois capítulos (para além da introdução e conclusão). O primeiro é uma
discussão teórica sobre o departamento da assistência de realização, onde é feita uma
elaboração introdutória mas ainda assim desenvolvida dos seus diversos membros, como o
primeiro assistente de realização, o segundo assistente, o terceiro, etc., e das tarefas que cada
membro deve desempenhar ao longo da pré-produção e produção, como o levantamento do
guião, a elaboração do seu detalhamento, a criação do calendário de filmagens, a gestão do
platô, a elaboração das folhas de serviço, etc. Já o segundo capítulo é uma elaboração diarística
do trabalho que foi feito no filme Henry! no âmbito de assistência de realização, tanto na préprodução como na produção. Como o filme era de baixo de orçamento, o departamento era só
constituído pelo primeiro assistente de realização, pelo que teve, assim, de acumular tarefas
que seriam realizadas por outros membros em produções de maior dimensão.
Under the Final Project course unit of the 2nd year of the Masters in Audiovisual Communication - Specialization in Audiovisual Production and Directing, at ESMAD, an opportunity arose to perform the role of first assistant director in one of the approved Final Project films: Henry!, a film about a woman trapped in a coma caused by the abusive and violent behavior of her boyfriend, written and directed by Deborah Findeiss. This essay, the result of research on assistant directing and of the work done throughout the pre-production and production of Henry!, is divided into two chapters (in addition to the introduction and conclusion). The first is a theoretical discussion on the assistant direction department, where an introductory but still developed elaboration is made of its various members, such as the first assistant director, the second assistant, the third, etc., and the tasks that each member must develop throughout pre-production and production, such as the surveying of the script, the making of its breakdown, the creation of the shooting schedule, the set management, the call sheets preparations, etc. The second chapter is a diary elaboration of the work that was done in Henry! pertaining to assistant directing, both in pre-production and in production. As the film was low-budget, the department was only represented by the first assistant director, so it had, thus, the cumulative tasks that are normally carried out by other members in larger productions.
