Abstract(s)
In today's competitive atmosphere, a successful supply chain increases the competitiveness of the companies. (Ene & Öztürk, 2012). The order-picking consists of a group of several products required by the customers, collecting them from their storage areas and this is an essential task in the supply chain. However, at the same time it is the highest cost component for the warehouse. Therefore, the challenge is to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of the picking process. The present study was developed in H.B. Fuller Portugal, a leading global adhesive provider. The goal of the study is to analyze and improve the picking process in the warehouse of the solvent based glues. This project the focuses on the improvement of proposals that allow to make the orderpicking more efficient for the company. In this sense, the current picking process has characterized and in order to diagnose it, the times of 14 random orders have been measured, and the problems and constraints identified. These problems are the result of the absence of the study and process updates to the current reality. Then, an analysis of these times has been done and it is useful to define and study improvements for the order picking related to the warehouse management, pick-list and the layout of warehouse. Efficiency increase has been achieved through the search and collection time reduction and by the drastic decrease of the distances.
