Abstract(s)
This masterās thesis project, entitled āAutomatization of the Manual Pigment Weighing Processā, was carried out in an industrial context, at the company CMIP, located in Lousado. The content of this dissertation includes an analysis of the current pigment weighing process, a study and design of a solution to automate the process, and different possible solutions were found. A collaborative robot was also implemented to test part of the idealized solution. The project began by identifying and studying the current pigment weighing process, which at the time consisted of a completely manual process of handling the pigments and the plastic bags used to transport them. The process in question was characterized, describing each stage of the process, the tools and the existing workspace. The pigments used in the process were also listed and characterized. In addition, a study was carried out, obtaining data representative of the current process and serving as a basis for the design of the future solution. After a first phase of recognizing and characterizing the current process, the necessary requirements were proposed for each piece of equipment in the idealized future solution. This project ended up being divided into two parts: the dosing of pigments and the handling of plastic bags. For the first part, a pre-identified concept already existed, where it was only necessary to make some adjustments to the initial concept and choose the necessary components, according to the requirements initially proposed. After this choice, a first functional prototype of the concept was implemented, in which some performance tests were carried out. Through these tests, it was possible to obtain the first data on the possible dosing system, more specifically, the cycle times of the collaborative robot. In the second part, it was necessary to investigate which solutions on the market best met the established requirements. Three different technologies were found and a solution was designed with each technology. In addition, a description of the solutions was prepared, with the advantages and disadvantages, and the respective budget required for their implementation. In conclusion, the results obtained from the tests carried out show a high cycle time compared to the current process. However, in terms of ergonomics and wellbeing, this solution makes the entire process and the associated work area more accessible and suitable for human presence. This automation of the process takes operators away from hard, repetitive work and into supervisory and/or extra tasks
