Com a ocorrência de um boom turístico na cidade do Porto, recebendo em média
cerca de 1500 turistas diariamente e sendo destacado com diversas distinções como Best City
Break, a pertinência da presente dissertação é avaliar as potencialidades da cidade do Porto
enquanto destino propício ao Turismo de Negócio, mais concretamente como destino MICE –
Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions.
Nesta investigação, o objetivo geral será analisar as potencialidades da cidade do
Porto e Norte de Portugal com destino MICE, visando, em particular, conhecer a importância
dos eventos MICE nas principais cidades europeias, interpretar as exigências das promotoras
de eventos na escolha de um destino, evidenciar a tipologia de eventos adequados à cidade
do Porto, compreender a promoção do destino em eventos internacionais, identificar as
principais estratégias implementadas pelo setor turístico portuense na captação de eventos
MICE, e estimar as oportunidades dos eventos MICE na cidade do Porto.
A metodologia a usar nesta investigação será qualitativa, através da exploração de
uma análise documental relativa à oferta existente na região e da realização de entrevistas a
membros da Associação de Turismo do Porto e a representantes de entidades de operadores
turísticos portuenses. Os resultados esperados com as entrevistas realizadas permitirão
enquadrar a cidade do Porto como destino de eventos MICE, determinar a influência da
promoção externa na escolha do destino e o impacto desta tipologia em termos de retorno
financeiro e de projeção internacional do destino e da região.
With a tourism boom taking place in the city of Porto, receiving an average of around 1,500 tourists every day and being distinguished with several awards as Best City Break, the relevance of this dissertation is to evaluate the potential of the city of Porto as a destination conducive to Business Tourism, more specifically as a MICE destination - Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions. In this research, the general aim will be to analyze the potential of the city of Porto and Northern Portugal as a MICE destination, aiming in particular to understand the importance of MICE events in the main European cities, to interpret the requirements of event promoters when choosing a destination, to highlight the type of events suitable for the city of Porto, to understand the promotion of the destination at international events, to identify the main strategies implemented by the tourism sector in Porto to attract MICE events, and to estimate the opportunities of MICE events in the city of Porto. The methodology to be used in this research will be qualitative, through the exploration of a documentary analysis of the existing offer in the region and interviews with members of the Porto Tourism Association and representatives of Porto's tour operator organizations. The results expected from the interviews will make it possible to frame the city of Porto as a destination for MICE events, determine the influence of external promotion on the choice of destination and the impact of this typology in terms of financial return and international projection of the destination and the region.
