This practice-based artistic research explores the possibilities of combining jazz and Galician traditional music through the creation of an original repertoire of seven compositions. The study combines a bibliographic and discographic review, semi-structured interviews with musicians connected to both musical traditions, and a creative process that was documented and critically reflected upon. Through composition and performance, the research investigates the relationships between characteristic elements of Galician traditional music—such as its rhythms, forms, timbres, and expressive resources—and key features of jazz, particularly improvisation and collective interaction. The results suggest that the convergence of these two musical languages can generate a hybrid aesthetic with its own identity, capable of preserving essential aspects of Galician tradition while incorporating new creative possibilities. This work contributes to the study of musical hybridization processes in Galicia and provides a creative framework for future artistic research in this field.
