Abstract(s)
Exceeding expectations and satisfying your customers' needs are two of the goals of any business. As times changed, companies, in order to adopt a more competitive posture, began to pay more attention to the quality, not only of their products but also of their processes. This requires an effective management of your resources in order to achieve success as quickly as possible. Achieving this success is often related to the transfer of products from the laboratory to large scale, that is, to production plants. Industrial units with processes that allow continuous improvement of products and consequently of the business, such as Research and Development, face problems in terms of product formulations, which leads to changes being made. Therefore, the objective of this work is the replacement of several raw materials, more specifically, isophorone, butyl acetate and Methyl-Isobutyl-Ketone, MIBK, of a finishing product without changing the characteristics that are determinant in the consumer use. To this end, several replacement changes were carried out on a laboratory scale, later moving from successful entry to a production plant. The laboratory tests, with the aid of stirrers and boosters, were subject to quality control, thus evaluating several parameters such as pH, extensibility, emulsion with water, solids content, viscosity and appearance. The replacement of butyl acetate and MIBK raw materials was successful, and an alternative formula was obtained that allowed the preservation of the product's characteristics, thus not verifying any change in terms of end use by the consumer. On the other hand, the replacement of isophorone was not carried out successfully since the degree of difficulty of the replacement is higher, thus forcing the continuation of the search for new solutions.
