Os indivíduos surdos estão na sociedade há séculos, entretanto sua história foi sempre repleta de dificuldades, da proibição até a legitimação da língua de sinais no Brasil. Este estudo apresenta um breve relato histórico da trajetória dos indivíduos surdos na superação dessas dificuldades, evidenciando que, com os passar do tempo, estes indivíduos vão vencendo as dificuldades que se apresentam com muito esforço e luta. No presente trabalho, abordaremos a trajetória da Educação de Surdos no município de Cabo Frio. O tema da educação especial vem sendo recentemente definido no Brasil conforme uma expectativa mais extensa, que extrapola a simples compreensão de atendimentos especializados tal como vinha sendo a sua marca nas últimas décadas.
Deaf individuals have been in society for centuries, but their history has always been fraught with difficulties, from prohibition to legitimation of sign language in Brazil. This study presents a brief historical account of the trajectory of deaf individuals in overcoming these difficulties, evidencing that over time, these individuals overcome the difficulties that present themselves with much effort and struggle. In the present work, we will cover the course of the Deaf Education in the municipality of Cabo Frio. The theme of special education has recently been defined in Brazil according to a more extended expectation, which goes beyond the simple understanding of specialized care as has been its brand in recent decades.
