This study aims to analyze the influence of gender on entrepreneurship in Portugal, seeking to identify barriers associated with the creation of new businesses. Framed within a post-positivist paradigm and based on a quantitative methodology, the research uses a convenience sample of 388 Portuguese companies created between 2019 and 2023, using a post-factum analysis. The data were collected from the SABI database – Iberian Balance Sheet Analysis System. The study seeks to understand how gender relates to the gender of the founder (manager or partner), the sector of economic activity, the legal form, and the year of incorporation. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software, including descriptive statistics, Spearman and Pearson correlations, Cronbach's internal consistency analysis, and CHAID segmentation models. The results highlight the persistence of differentiated patterns in the sectoral distribution and legal form of companies according to gender, demonstrating the existence of structural constraints that continue to shape the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Although some statistics show moderate intensity, the data reinforce the relevance of the gender dimension as an explanatory variable in the Portuguese business context. It is concluded that, despite the progress made in promoting equality, asymmetries remain that justify the need for public policies and organizational strategies aimed at reducing structural barriers to female entrepreneurship.
