Abstract(s)
The text, the patterning and the manufacturing used for the delivery of the costumes and the performance itself were supported by a research process and its conception, and are the main parts of the final work in this master's project in costume design. This theoretical-practical research has its focus on the articulations between identity and costume. The relationship between these two spheres is reflected upon the character of Orlando in Virginia Woolf's novel. Through the analysis and interpretation of this novel the line of thought is established and suggests the research's guiding lines. The work is divided in two parts: a theoretical research about the clothing as one’s identity expression, considering the thematics presented in Orlando; and the elaboration of scenic garments, taking into account the themes explored in the theoretical research.
