Abstract(s)
CACI seeks not only to promote the autonomy and quality of life of people with disabilities, but also to involve them in decisions that affect their Life Project. However, in institutions that serve people with disabilities, the principles of quality and self-determination are often not applied in daily practice, with participation in decision-making being minimal. The aim of this study was to explore the participants' perceptions and experiences of their daily routine in order to identify facilitators and barriers to their well-being in the institution; to explore the meaning attributed by young people to the possibility of participating in decision-making in the institution; and to promote the participation of these young people in decision-making regarding their daily lives through the Photovoice methodology. In order to achieve these objectives, from an exploratory approach, we adopted a case study design and used the Photovoice and Focus Group methodology to explore the perceptions and experiences of eight young adults who participate in the activities of an institution. This sample was selected for convenience. Each moment of data collection was recorded and transcribed for later analysis. To analyze the interviews, Focus Groups, we used the thematic analysis of (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The results of the research show that the participants were able to identify twelve barriers and two facilitators, having identified factors that could be taken into consideration in an institution for people with disabilities in order to promote their quality of life and participation, and thus the quality of services.
