Abstract(s)
The Student Housing Assistance Program (PROMORE) is aimed primarily at students in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability so that they can continue their studies in cities, or regions other than the family home. The work aimed to identify the reasons that led students to leave PROMORE, Student Residence (RE), at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rondônia IFRO / Campus Colorado do Oeste before completing the course, in addition to characterizing their personal and academic experiences in this environment. It is a quantitative and qualitative study. As for the data collection procedure, the use of documentary research and questionnaire survey was adopted. Regarding the instruments, the Sociodemographic Questionnaire (QS) was used; Reduced Questionnaire on Academic Experiences - QVAr (Almeida, Ferreira & Soares, 2001) and the General Health Questionnaire - GHQ12 (Goldberg, 1978). The studied population were students of the Technical Course in Integrated Agriculture in High School and participants of the Program between the years 2016 to 2019, having as sample, students of the 2nd and 3rd year in the Course in 2019. The results show that the main reasons for the dismissals they were for personal reasons and most of the disconnected students managed to complete the Course. Regarding the experience of living, the results show that there is a clear association between the quality of academic experiences and better mental health of resident students, as this study shows that the academic experiences pointed out by students have an impact on mental health. We also point out that male students showed better values in terms of mental health. Despite these data, the social and academic importance of Student Residencies is unequivocal for students to be able to complete their courses, although it is also true that the Program's efficiency can be improved. In this sense, it is important to create mechanisms that can prevent or mitigate some obstacles and further enhance RE as an effective and safe means for students to achieve their academic goals.
