Abstract(s)
The present project intends to measure the degree of maturity of the project management practices of organizations that according to the Portuguese Classification of Economic Activities (INE) develop their main activity under the code of machines manufacturing for the mining and quarrying and construction industries, in the region of Tâmega and Sousa. This research is based on the concepts and guidelines presented in the PMBOK®, adopting as an evaluation model the Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®). In the theoretical framework, the concepts and guidelines for project management were discussed, as well as OPM3®. Subsequently, the sector under study and the region were characterized. In the methodology, a qualitative methodology was adopted because under study are behaviors and activities of individuals and organizations., Another relevant issue is the fact that semi-structured interviews were used for data collection. Those interviews were based on the self-assessment provided by OPM3®. The main result is the degree of maturity of this industry in the region of Tâmega and Sousa, additionally, the average was 15%, with the highest 19% and 12% as the minimum value, it also provides data on the areas of knowledge and process groups most frequent in companies. It can also work as a starting point for implementing improvements in organizations. By the end of this research, it was possible to confirm that these organizations consciously or unconsciously develop their daily operations within a project management perspective. However even identifying processes, which belong to good project management practices, these organizations score for a relatively low maturity level.
