No cinema podemos encontrar imensas histórias originais, no entanto seu número é superado pelas adaptações cinematográficas. Esta procura por histórias noutros meios dá-se desde o início da sétima arte e, numa época marcada por remakes, sequelas, e novas adaptações, é importante estudar a relação entre cinema e material original. Assim, o presente ensaio tem como objetivos o estudo da relação entre o cinema e a literatura, focando-se no papel da realização e na obra autor americano F. Scott Fitzgerald, e o relato do desenvolvimento da curta-metragem O Egotista, que adapta excertos do livro This Side of Paradise.
We can find an immensity of original stories in cinema, however their number is surpassed by film adaptations. This search for stories in other mediums happens since the beginning of the seventh art and, in a time marked by remakes, sequels and new adaptations, it's important to study the relationship between cinema and the original material. Thus, the present essay's goal is to study the relation between cinema and literature, focusing on the role of the film director and on the work of the american author F. Scott Fitzgerald, and accounting the development of the shortfilm O Egotista, that adapts excerpts of the book This Side of Paradise.
