Abstract(s)
This paperwork falls within the scope of the study of the wind effects on the dynamic response of Monte da Virgem telecommunications tower. This work consists on the characterization of the response in terms of accelerations and the identification of the moments when its response is amplified and identifying the wind behaviour that ignite these effects. Initially will be referred some international studies, in order to properly contextualize the investigation that is being conducted, which will be later detailed some of the studies done on Monte da Virgem telecommunications tower, in particular the ones related to the development of calibrated numerical model of the tower, based on the experimental results of one ambient vibration test and regarded the installation of a permanent monitoring system. The analysis of the information withdrawn of the permanent monitoring system motivated the development of programmed routines with the software Matlab which automatized the characterization of events in which the tower’s response is significantly amplified, classified as critical events, in terms of frequency, duration and its extent. The occurrence of these events is due to the contribute of a local vibration mode of the metal structure, which has showed to be sensitive to specific wind behaviours from east, with velocities around 20-30 km/h.
