Ao longo dos anos que vivi na cidade do Porto, apercebi-me da existência de uma visão irrealista sobre o que é viver numa ilha. Este trabalho de investigação assenta em duas principais temáticas. Primeiramente, terá como principal objetivo a análise da perceção/visão do que é viver numa ilha, colocando ênfase principalmente na Ilha Terceira, no arquipélago dos Açores, utilizando as entrevistas como metodologia. Segue- se a abordagem de uma das tradições mais importantes do povo Terceirense, que se tornou ao longo dos anos imagem de marca desta ilha, um património riquíssimo que deve ser divulgado, através dos testemunhos de pessoas ligadas a esta tradição do Carnaval, intendendo dá-la a conhecer como um património riquíssimo e único no mundo, e que representa muito bem as vivências deste povo caraterizado pelos seus visitantes como alegre, hospitaleiro e festivo.
Over the years that I have lived in the city of Porto, I have been aware of the existence of an unrealistic vision of what it is like to live on an island. This research work is based on two main themes. It will first have as its main objective the analysis of the perception/vision of what it is to live on an island, putting emphasis mainly on Terceira Island, in the Azores archipelago, using interviews as methodology. It follows the approach of one of the most important traditions of the Terceira people, that became throughout the years the brand image of this island, a rich patrimony that must be made public, through the testimonies of people linked to this tradition of the Carnival, intending to make it known as a rich and unique patrimony in the world, and that represents very well the experiences of this people portrayed by its visitors as joyful, welcoming and festive.
