Abstract(s)
Este projeto de mestrado centra-se na exploração técnica e criativa do sintetizador Vital como ferramenta para a conceção de uma livraria de presets inspirada na temática da ficção científica. A livraria inclui presets com referências e inspiração em filmes e jogos, tanto clássicos como modernos, e também presets de inspiração livre focados em ambiências, personagens, armas, criaturas, veículos, entre outros. No domínio do design de som, a rápida evolução tecnológica tem proporcionado o surgimento de cada vez mais ferramentas com abordagens inovadoras, levando à necessidade de investigações aprofundadas. O foco desta pesquisa é singular, considerando que a livraria de presets foi concebida não apenas para a produção musical, mas principalmente como um instrumento puro de design sonoro, adaptável também a diferentes contextos, como
filmes, videojogos ou paisagens sonoras. A metodologia adotada é compreensiva, envolvendo análise literária, interação com a comunidade do Vital, e extensa experimentação. Ao se centrar exclusivamente no sintetizador Vital, esta investigação realça a riqueza criativa que pode surgir ao se imporem restrições nas ferramentas utilizadas. Este estudo contribui de forma abrangente para o campo do design de som e concretamente para o campo do design e criação de livrarias de presets, identificando possíveis melhorias para a ferramenta e servindo como base para futuras pesquisas na área.
This master's project focuses on the technical and creative exploration of the Vital synthesizer as a tool for the design of a preset library inspired by the science fiction theme. The library includes presets with references and inspiration from both classic and modern films and games, as well as freely inspired presets focused on ambiances, characters, weapons, creatures, vehicles, among others. In the realm of sound design, rapid technological evolution has led to the emergence of increasingly innovative tools, necessitating in-depth investigations. The focus of this research is unique, considering that the preset library was designed not just for musical production but primarily as a pure sound design instrument, adaptable to different contexts such as films, video games, or soundscapes. The adopted methodology is comprehensive, involving literary analysis, interaction with the Vital community, and extensive experimentation. By focusing exclusively on the Vital synthesizer, this research highlights the creative richness that can arise when imposing restrictions on the tools used. This study broadly contributes to the field of sound design, and specifically to the design and creation of preset libraries, identifying possible improvements for the tool and serving as a foundation for future research in the area.
