O legado de Charles Perrault é incontestável. Desde há muito que os seus contos fazem parte da literatura infantil clássica e, passados mais de trezentos anos da primeira publicação de Histoires ou Contes du Temps Passé. Avec des Moralitez (1697), eles continuam a ser lidos pelas crianças de todo o mundo.
Este projeto tem como objetivo o confronto minucioso entre as três primeiras e três das últimas traduções portuguesas do conto La Belle au Bois Dormant, sem perder de vista o texto francês. A versão original deste conto, incluído na obra supracitada, tem uma presença considerável em várias edições portuguesas, constituindo o ponto de partida para a análise contrastiva que nos propusemos a fazer.
Ao longo deste estudo, são abordadas as bases teóricas da tradução, as problemáticas da tradução de literatura infantil, as origens do conto, a obra de Charles Perrault, o apogeu do conto de fadas, a literatura infantil em Portugal e a receção de Perrault no panorama literário português.
A análise comparativa destas seis traduções estrutura-se nas categorias da narrativa e também no confronto com a moralidade do conto, para identificar o que as várias opções tradutivas possuem de comum e de diferente e se têm em conta a criança como público de chegada.
The legacy of Charles Perrault is indisputable. His tales have long been part of classical children’s literature and are still read by children all over the world, more than three hundred years after the publication of Histoires ou Contes du Temps Passé. Avec des Moralitez (1697). This work aims at a thorough comparison between the first three and three of the most recent Portuguese translations for La Belle au Bois Dormant, but without losing sight of the French text. The original version of this tale, included in the work mentioned above, has a significant presence in numerous Portuguese editions. This fact constitutes the starting point for the intended comparative analysis. The theoretical foundations of translation are addressed throughout this study, as well as the challenges of translating children’s literature, the origins of the tale, the work of Charles Perrault, the apogee of the fairy tale, the background of children’s literature in Portugal and the response to Perrault in the Portuguese literary world. The comparative analysis of these six translations is based on the narrative categories and on the comparison of each tale’s moral in order to detect what the various translation options have in common and what differs between them, as well as to determine if children are their target audience.
