Abstract(s)
No
The thesis defended in this study is that the Band of S. Martinho do Campo had an important role in the construction of the social and cultural path of the identity image of the parish of Campo, Valongo County. The present dissertation conducts a research related to the Philharmonic Band of S. Martinho do Campo about its historical and identitary trajectory. The work was developed following a chronological order and focusing on the different historical contexts of the end of the. 19th and 20th centuries to the present day, which, in a direct or indirect way, conditioned and influenced the evolution of the Band. Although the dissertation had as object of study a philharmonic band, it would be expected that music should be relevant in the work. However, the study does not aim to develop exhaustively aspects related to the formalism of music and its importance in the historical context, but rather the political, cultural and social factors that determined the social organization of the Campo band from its foundation to the present. During the research period, we tried to do a work based on documents, images and interviews made to members of the band as elements of the local community, namely the local parish priest, President of the Parish Council and the administrator of the Company of the Slates of Valongo, in order to present narrated facts and histories whose objective will be to obtain elements that allow a more sustained and credible basis to the study about the collectivity. Finally, it was important not to infer judgments or cast opinions that misrepresent the objectives to which this dissertation undertakes: research, study, critical reflection and discussion of the topics covered, such as the history of the band, factors demographic, work as a factor of social organization, social and political contexts.
