Abstract(s)
This research delves into the Critical Success Factors of managing remote teams in a project management environment. The main objective focuses on identifying the crucial elements for the success of projects executed by remote project teams. Through an initial literature review 93 CSFs, organized into 7 categories were identified.
The subsequent phase of this investigation involved the validation of the identified Critical Success Factors through surveys conducted among 44 individuals assuming the roles of Project Managers, Team Leaders and Team Members within Nestlé/Nespresso.
To accomplish the objective a case-study methodology combined with the application of surveys was developed. The choice of this company is justified due to the multilocation and multicultural perspective existing at Nespresso projects.
Based on the responses of the three professional categories, 20 FSCs were identified. The division between more and less relevant factors considered a 75% threshold of responses that classified each factor as important or very important. A more detailed analysis then identified the most relevant factors for each category. Project Managers identified 33 factors, Team Leaders 15 and Team Members 29. By cross-referencing the factors common to these three professional categories, a list of 11 factors was identified, mostly including factors related to leadership and communication.
While the study acknowledges the challenge of synthesizing an extensive array of Critical Success Factors due to the abundance of available but dispersed information, it is worth noting that the research is specifically tailored to address the unique context of remote project teams within the realm of project management. This study contributes to understanding the dynamics inherent in remote teams, identifying the critical factors for Project Managers grappling with the complexities of collaborative endeavors in remote environments.
Additionally, the research underscores the need for periodic review and adjustment of CSFs to ensure ongoing alignment with strategic goals and adaptability to new challenges.
