Abstract(s)
This dissertation analyzes the attitudes of the Portuguese educational and artistic community towards contemporary music and its role in instrumental teaching in Portugal, in particular to the violin. Based on my experience, the observation of several close cases and a review of the literature, one can detect a gap in teaching the curriculum regarding the introduction of extended techniques and contemporary music. The research is carried out using interviews with teachers and a questionnaire survey of students, intended to understand why, in instrumental string teaching, extended techniques are not covered and contemporary works are not played, whether due to a lack of the necessary qualifications, knowledge or curricular limitations, so that in the future there may be the possibility of implementing this type of music in the integral training of an instrumentalist. The ultimate aim of this project is to encourage the introduction of extended techniques and contemporary music to students of artistic musical education, seeking to expand the violin repertoire by commissioning didactic works from young composers.
