Abstract(s)
Buildings are huge consumers of energy due to the heating of water and air conditioning. Sports buildings, particularly those containing heated swimming pools, are facilities with high energy consumption. And, with rising energy costs, it is crucial to reduce these costs mainly in the public sector due to budget constraints. In this project, the present situation was analyzed based on literature and published studies of energy consumption and of the technical-economic energy efficiency measures that can be implemented in Amarante Municipal Swimming Pools, as well as lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions into the atmosphere. The annual costs of electricity and thermal energy consumption are almost identical. However, after conversion of consumption values to the equivalent ton of oil (tep), there was a high consumption of propane gas, around 63% compared to electricity consumption. In this study two budgets were requested from two companies. After the budget analysis of both companies, with the implementation of the proposed measures, there would be significant annual savings and annual greenhouse gas emission reductions of 68%. Energy efficiency must be a permanent concern for the correct use of the necessary energies. There are support programs for municipalities that can be used to renovate older systems for more efficient ones, as budget constraints are increasing. Municipalities with indoor swimming pools must implement sustainable financial and environmental measures.
