Abstract(s)
The phenomenon of Fátima must be understood as more than just a popular religious manifestation. It was a fundamental element in the context of war, political conflict and cultural transformation in Portugal. The apparitions to the three shepherd children in 1917 by Our Lady of Fátima divided opinion among believers and sceptics, but quickly became a national and international symbol of contemporary Catholic life and a place of spiritual and social convergence. The documentary aims to convey the power of this phenomenon and follow the intimate and symbolic journey of the pilgrim, the one who believes in something greater than ourselves, the one who seeks answers. And sometimes those answers come in the form of sensations and experiences that only those who w alk seem to understand. ‘De Corpo e Alma’ promises to reflect, through the experience of a group of pilgrims from Santo Tirso, on the universal meaning of faith and how it motivates them to complete the challenge they have set themselves. Their journey mirrors that of thousands of pilgrims who undergo the same physical effort and process of intimate transformation. I t is this transition from the individual to the collective, from the local to the universal, that the documentary seeks to focus on. A process that included a method of research, namely on the history of Fátima and its miracles, as well as interviews with pilgrims, members of the organisation and a psychologist. This documentary concludes that pilgrimage is much more than just the arrival, it is a journey that transforms on an intellectual and emotional level. Each step represents the strength we place in something that is not tangible, not material, not even visible. And that can be just as powerful, if not more so.
