Abstract(s)
Cooperation networks and local productive systems have merited the attention of many authors, and the fundamental role they play in the internationalization of companies should be highlighted. The literature refers to the difficulties that firms face when they want to internationalize and how to overcome them, for example, by integrating cooperation networks or being geographically located in a local productive system. In general, cooperation networks are seen as fundamental to the internationalization of companies. In order to investigate the impact that cooperation networks or local productive systems have on the growth of a company, two research approaches were used. The first, was a bibliometric review just to collect the scientific articles and then a systematic literature review based on scientific articles collected in the Web of Science ™ Core Colletion and an analysis using the VOSviewer program allowing the formation of clusters. The second approach, with the purpose of understanding the results previously obtained, consisted of a qualitative investigation based on semi-structured interviews in order to understand the importance that the cooperation networks and the geographical location of the company have on its international expansion. In order to analyze the information collected, a mapping and analysis program, Voyant Tools, a code text analysis software that provides varied text handling skills (Hetenyi et al., 2019), was used. The results obtained in the first article allow us to conclude that companies, through cooperation networks and local productive systems, have gains in information, know-how, reduced transaction costs, and knowledge obtained, which facilitates their entry into international markets. The second article suggests a direct relationship between integration in cooperation networks and internationalization, strengthening the conclusions drawn in the first article. In addition, service or product innovation, which are also pointed out as crucial for differentiation in international markets. The originality of this dissertation is due to the fact that in the literature, scientific articles are essentially focused only on cooperation networks and internationalization and do not encompass the impact that local production systems have on cooperation networks.
