Abstract(s)
This documentary about Emmanuel Nunes attempts to translate to film an aesthetic approach that is evident in the composer’s own works. In the world of contemporary classical music, Nunes is seen as belonging to the field of Musique Concrète, and with influence from the Surrealists. The style of the film therefore makes reference to the artists that influenced him, especially Kandinsky, but also Dadaist writers who identified more with an avant-gardist and experimental aesthetic. Both Nunes’s music and the documentary address the dichotomy between the concrete and the abstract, the objective and the subjective, the narrative and the experimental. There is a permanent dialogue between the music Einspielung I and the imagery, seeking to create a synthesis between the sound world and the visual. The film follows the composer’s creative life, in particular the composition of one work which provides the framework for the film’s narrative. The film is not a homage but an independent piece of work that will exist apart from the music to which it refers and from the composer’s own life.
