Abstract(s)
XX.
This dissertation aims to study the contribution of the violinist Vasco Barbosa to the appreciation and dissemination of Portuguese musical heritage. This purpose was achieved through a comparative analysis of his interpretations of three sonatas for violin and piano by Fernando Lopes-Graça, Frederico de Freitas, and Ruy Coelho, recorded by Vasco Barbosa. The analysis revealed that his interpretation is distinguished by technical clarity, controlled expressiveness, and a stylistically coherent reading aligned with each composer’s aesthetic context. The results also highlight the Portuguese violinist’s interpretative evolution throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
