comrpeender as expressões e o sentimento associados.
This study aims to present a critical review of the literature on news coverage in Portugal and the involvement of emerging audiences in these media. To analyze this engagement we used the Facebook platform. In order to summarize its main results and serve as a basis for future research, we first collected more than 30 000 news items and categorized them categorically, in order to understand the expressions and sentiment associated. Fulfilling the proposed objective, a quantitative study was elaborated with the objecive of characterizing the background that the news about COVID-19 had in the data collection sources, compare its temporal evolution of journalistic relevance and evaluate the response and engagement of active audiences, in these same sources facing COVID-19. This study aimed to understand the development of people's behavior, in three Portuguese media platforms, and to understand which themes people are more concerned about, or those of less relevance. We highlight the relevance of this theme for understanding the involvement of emerging audiences in social networks, particularly on the Facebook platform, especially in times of crisis as was disputed through the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19.
