Abstract(s)
Usamos a versão
adaptada à população portuguesa dos instrumentos Children’s Assessment of
Participation and Enjoyment (CAPE) e Preferences for Activities of Children
(Santos, 2014).
Participation of children and young people with support needs has been identified as an important fator of the inclusion in the community. This study aimed to describe and evaluate the participation of children and young people with or without support needs in leisure activities, formal and informal within their contexts in home, community (outside home) and school. We use an adapted version to Portuguese population of instruments Children's Assessment of Participation and Enjoyment (CAPE) and Preferences for Activities of Children (Santos, 2014). The sample consisted of 119 children and young people, selected in a Schools of Maia, of which 42 are children/young people with support needs and 77 has no support needs. The results of this study showed that children/young people with support needs participate less in all activities, including informal, social, selfimprovement activities: at home; formal and physical activities outside the home; in social activities at school. The results suggest few significant differences in the level of satisfaction and preference among children/young people with and without support needs. They are also students with support needs to be closer to adults, and far in the school of their peers without support needs, and functionality increases participation in leisure activities, particularly in physical and social activities. Finally, the results showed also potential associations between sociodemographic variables (gender, age, ethnicity and education level) and participation in leisure activities, formal and informal.
