Abstract(s)
The aim of this project was to deepen our knowledge of the seismic design process for reinforced concrete buildings, in accordance with the criteria defined in the NP EN 1998-1 standard. Specific finite element numerical simulation skills were developed, using automatic calculation tools, carrying out linear elastic analyses with behavioural coefficients, considering regulatory response spectra. After an architectural presentation of the building under study, which at the time of writing is under construction, and structural design in accordance with the NP EN 1992-1-1 and NP EN 1991-4 standards, the design criteria contained in the NP EN 1998-1 standard (general and specific for reinforced concrete buildings) are reviewed. After determining the dynamic attributes of the original structure, a simulation of the same building with the same characteristics is carried out in an area with higher seismicity, in this case Lisbon. In the end, the differences between the designs are compared, the economic impacts of seismic design are analysed and conclusions are drawn.
