Abstract(s)
abordamos o Voluntariado Jovem. Relativamente a implicações práticas do estudo, estas
permitem inferir diversas sugestões e recomendações para a gestão e gestores, no âmbito do
Terceiro Setor.
Purpose – The purpose of this study is analyze and measure the possible antecedents of the volunteering intention among young Portuguese. Methodology – An empirical cross-sectional study was carried out using a Portuguese sample, through a descriptive, quantitative, exploratory and confirmatory research. This was possible through the identification of a theoretical model, supported by a literature review of certain latent variables, susceptible to allow investigate the relationship and the possible antecedents of volunteering intention. Data was collected based on a survey, available online, which allowed to obtain a valid sample of 404 answers. The hypotheses were tested using a confirmatory structural equation model. Findings and conclusions – Most of hypotheses and associative levels between the variables and relationships studied, were proved. We highlight the attitude, the subjective norm and the perceived behavioral control, of young people, to constitute, significantly and positively, the antecedents of volunteering intention, unlike the purpose in life. It was considered and assured the convergent and discriminant validity of the measurement scales and good psychometric qualities. It was obtained, likewise, different predictive capacities of some independent variables in youth volunteering intention, as well as interesting correlational levels between the latent variables of the analysis model. Limitations/implications – The results need to be analyzed with precaution according to a nonprobabilistic sample. The lack of similar work and studies in Portugal created some limitations in the discussion of the results. Amongst the theoretically implications, we find that volunteering is increasingly more strategic in the personal organization and life organizational, thus presenting a constant dynamic evolution over the years, both in the conceptual level, as well the amount of volunteers comprising, especially when we referring to youth volunteering. Regarding the practical implications of the study, these allowed us to deduce various suggestions and recommendations for the management and managers within the third sector. Originality/value – The most important contribution of this study is to be the first one to be held in Portugal, up to date, in which it was proposed and investigated a (new) theoretical model referring to the possible antecedents of youth volunteering intention.
