Abstract(s)
This internship report, entitled Sight-Reading on the Violin: The Technical Foundation as a Pillar of Development, is part of the Master’s Degree in Music Teaching, specialization in Instrument – Violin, at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo. The work aims to analyze the relevance of sight-reading as a fundamental skill in violin training, arguing that its effectiveness depends on a solid and integrated technical foundation. Based on an analysis of studies on sight-reading and through pedagogical observation and practice carried out at the Escola Profissional Artística do Vale do Ave (ARTAVE), the technical, cognitive, and perceptual factors that influence instrumental reading were investigated. The study highlights that mastery of instrumental technique —namely motor coordination, intonation, bow control, and visual anticipation —forms the foundation that supports fluent and expressive reading. Systematic and mindful practice of sight-reading proves to be not only a means of technical improvement but also an effective way to develop autonomy, concentration, and interpretative ability. The report concludes that the integration of sight -reading into the violin curriculum contributes significantly to the overall training of the musician, reinforcing the connection between technique and musicality.
