Abstract(s)
Hoje, a
Assegura a comunicação
Project management field has been evolving in recent decades. This evolution allowed the definition of the profession through the development of processes, techniques and values that guided the profession to its standardization. Today, the profession is transversal to several sectors of activity, as it is the case in Portugal, in the automotive industry. The competitive pressures of the automotive sector and the urgency to reduce costs have prompted manufacturers to establish new forms of relationships with suppliers - Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Although it is given little formal authority, the project manager plays a leading role. It ensures communication between is organization and clients and coordinates a multidisciplinary team during the development phase of the projects. This study was carried out with the purpose of characterizing the profile, at the academic and professional level, of project managers who perform functions in the automotive industry in Portugal. As a research methodology two distinct but complementary approaches were used. In the first phase, a quantitative approach was used, by conducting an online questionnaire for project managers in the automotive industry. In a second phase, through a qualitative approach, 3 interviews were carried out with project managers. The state of the art on automotive industry and project management was revised as a theoretical basis for research. Finally, a typical profile of the project manager of the automotive industry in Portugal was drawn up, the success of project managers was evaluated, and recommendations were made to attain a higher rate of success in project management.
