Segundo Lourenço (2020), a predileção da escola francesa de piano pela sonoridade brilhante mais próxima da tradição cravística francesa, pelo jeu perlé, pela elegance, clarté e pela transparência, fundamenta o pianismo francês como uma tradição interpretativa que se caracteriza pela busca da sobriedade sonora, com forte ênfase na fidelidade à partitura e no equilíbrio técnico e expressivo.
Este trabalho propõe-se analisar a evolução do pianismo francês ao longo do século XX e XXI, explorando tanto os seus traços estéticos tradicionais como as transformações decorrentes das influências pedagógicas e culturais.
A investigação baseia-se na análise crítica de gravações selecionadas de peças emblemáticas, interpretadas por pianistas representativos da escola francesa, bem como numa revisão da literatura especializada sobre os métodos pedagógicos e a estética desta tradição.
Os resultados evidenciam que, embora intérpretes como Monique Haas e Michael Dalberto mantenham os princípios clássicos do pianismo francês – como a clareza tímbrica, o controlo do pedal e a contenção emocional –, músicos mais jovens, como Lucas Debargue, introduzem abordagens expressivas mais livres e pessoais, demonstrando uma evolução que combina fidelidade à tradição com inovação interpretativa.
Este estudo contribui para a compreensão da dinâmica entre herança e inovação na interpretação pianística francesa, destacando as tensões entre a preservação dos valores clássicos e a adaptação às exigências expressivas contemporâneas.
According to Lourenço (2020), the French school of piano, predilection for a brilliant sonority reminiscent of the French harpsichord tradition, the jeu perlé, elegance, clarté, and transparency, establishes French pianism as an interpretative tradition defined by the pursuit of sound sobriety, with strong emphasis on fidelity to the score and on technical and expressive balance. This work aims to analyse the evolution of French pianism throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, exploring both its traditional aesthetic traits and the transformations resulting from pedagogical and cultural influences. The research is based on a critical analysis of selected recordings of emblematic pieces performed by representative pianists of the French School, as well as a review of specialized literature on the pedagogical methods and aesthetic values of this tradition. The results show that, while performers such as Monique Haas and Michael Dalberto uphold the classical principles of French pianism – such as tonal clarity, pedal control, and emotional restraint – younger musicians, like Lucas Debargue introduce more personal and expressive approaches, demonstrating an evolution that blends fidelity to tradition with interpretative innovation. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamic between heritage and innovation in French piano performance, highlighting the tensions between preserving classical values and adapting to contemporary expressive demands.
