Abstract(s)
The Casa da Roda do Porto [Oporto Wheel House] ended its functions at the end of the 19th century. The archive that keeps its memory and that of those who passed through the institution is kept in the city's District Archive. Integrating still and moving images and sound, the project starts from the collection of this archive to build a perspective on the objects that survived the Casa da Roda do Porto, especially the signs that preserve the last genealogical traces of the abandoned children. As a reference, the photographic projects of the authors Helena Flores and Daniel Blaufuks developed around the archive of the Casa da Roda are considered. The theoretical study analyses the concept of archive, and its relationship with photography, and considers the possibilities of representation and authorial interpretation of an archival collection. The photographic work intends to stimulate, through the gaze, the selection and the technical and aesthetic work of the project's author, a reflection on the reality of Casa da Roda and on the lives enclosed in the archive's memory.
