- Contaminação do ar e superfíciesPublication .
- Measures of neuropsychological assessment as indicators of success in neuropsychological rehabilitation: an exploratory correlational studyPublication . Mendes, Liliana; Barbosa, F.; Reis, L.P.Neuropsychological assessment not only allows diagnosing possible neurocognitive impairments in domains such as attention, working memory, and executive functions, but can also provide useful information for the neuropsychological rehabilitation. By applying a set of valid neuropsychological tests to individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), and subsequently studying how patients’ performance in rehabilitation programs relates with measures that are commonly provided by these tests, we may obtain valuable predictors of individual success that can be considered in neuropsychological rehabilitation.
- Co-activation of upper limb muscles during reaching in post-stroke subjects: An analysis of the contralesional and ipsilesional limbsPublication . Silva, Cláudia; Silva, Augusta; Pinheiro De Sousa, Andreia Sofia; Pinheiro, Ana Rita; Bourlinova, Catarina; Silva, Ana; Salazar, António; Borges, Carla; Crasto, Carlos; Correia, Miguel Velhote; Vilas-Boas, João Paulo; Santos, RubimThe purpose of this study was to analyze the change in antagonist co-activation ratio of upper-limb muscle pairs, during the reaching movement, of both ipsilesional and contralesional limbs of post-stroke subjects. Nine healthy and nine post-stroke subjects were instructed to reach and grasp a target, placed in the sagittal and scapular planes of movement. Surface EMG was recorded from postural control and movement related muscles. Reaching movement was divided in two sub-phases, according to proximal postural control versus movement control demands, during which antagonist co-activation ratios were calculated for the muscle pairs LD/PM, PD/AD, TRIlat/BB and TRIlat/BR. Post-stroke's ipsilesional limb presented lower co-activation in muscles with an important role in postural control (LD/PM), comparing to the healthy subjects during the first sub-phase, when the movement was performed in the sagittal plane (p<0.05). Conversely, the post-stroke's contralesional limb showed in general an increased co-activation ratio in muscles related to movement control, comparing to the healthy subjects. Our findings demonstrate that, in post-stroke subjects, the reaching movement performed with the ipsilesional upper limb seems to show co-activation impairments in muscle pairs associated to postural control, whereas the contralesional upper limb seems to have signs of impairment of muscle pairs related to movement.
- Neuromuscular taping does not change fibularis longus latency time and postural swayPublication . Correia, Christophe; Lopes, Susana; Gonçalves, Rafael; Torres, Rui; Gonçalves, Pedro; Rodrigues, Mário; Costa, Rui; Lopes, Mário; Ribeiro, FernandoAnkle sprains are a common injury and fibularis longus plays an important role improving functional stability. Neuromuscular tape seems to improve muscle force, although little is known regarding its effect on latency time.
- Development and assessment of an E-Learning course on breast imaging for radiographers: a stratified randomized controlled trialPublication . Moreira, Inês C.; Ventura, Sandra; Ramos, Isabel; Rodrigues, Pedro PereiraMammography is considered the best imaging technique for breast cancer screening, and the radiographer plays an important role in its performance. Therefore, continuing education is critical to improving the performance of these professionals and thus providing better health care services. Our goal was to develop an e-learning course on breast imaging for radiographers, assessing its efficacy , effectiveness, and user satisfaction. A stratified randomized controlled trial was performed with radiographers and radiology students who already had mammography training, using pre- and post-knowledge tests, and satisfaction questionnaires. The primary outcome was the improvement in test results (percentage of correct answers), using intention-to-treat and per-protocol analysis. A total of 54 participants were assigned to the intervention (20 students plus 34 radiographers) with 53 controls (19+34). The intervention was completed by 40 participants (11+29), with 4 (2+2) discontinued interventions, and 10 (7+3) lost to follow-up. Differences in the primary outcome were found between intervention and control: 21 versus 4 percentage points (pp), P<.001. Stratified analysis showed effect in radiographers (23 pp vs 4 pp; P=.004) but was unclear in students (18 pp vs 5 pp; P=.098). Nonetheless, differences in students’ posttest results were found (88% vs 63%; P=.003), which were absent in pretest (63% vs 63%; P=.106). The per-protocol analysis showed a higher effect (26 pp vs 2 pp; P<.001), both in students (25 pp vs 3 pp; P=.004) and radiographers (27 pp vs 2 pp; P<.001). Overall, 85% were satisfied with the course, and 88% considered it successful. This e-learning course is effective, especially for radiographers, which highlights the need for continuing education.
- Kinematic and electromyographic features of upper-limb movement performed by healthy and post-stroke patientsPublication . Silva, Rosa Mariana; Fonseca, Pedro; Pinheiro, Ana Rita; Vila-Chã, Carolina; Silva, Cláudia; Correia, Miguel Velhote; Mouta, SandraIt is extremely difficult to simplify the relation between several body parts, which perform human motion, into one set of features. Mainly, the upper-limb is capable of a wider range of actions, going from fine manipulation to prehension and grasping. Aiming to describe its complexity, several studies have been conducted in order to better understand the upper-limb specificities. However, most of studies restrain the task to pointing, reaching, or grasping, which seems not enough to explain the wide range of tasks possible to be performed in a daily scenario.
- Psychometric Properties of the Communication Skills Attitudes Scale (CSAS) among Portuguese undergraduate students in Allied Health SciencesPublication . Carvalho, Irene; Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Grilo, Ana; Martins, Helena; Magalhães, Andreia; Salgado, AnaCommunication in health has attracted increasing interest in recent decades, revealing the need for appropriate research tools. The study of the psychometric properties of instruments and the confirmation of their structure is crucial for the reliability and validity of the overall results of scientific work. Repeated analyses of these dimensions over time are important because it allows us to identify changes that result from social and cultural changes. This study aims to assess the reliability, factor structure, and construct validity of the Communication Skills Attitudes Scale.
- Needs assessment of families of people with mental illnessPublication . Santos, Teresa; Marques, António; Queirós, CristinaIn Portugal, the majority of people with mental illness live with their families, which play an important role in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with these conditions. Supporting families of people with mental illness is considered a key component in the psychosocial rehabilitation process (O’Doherty, Doherty, & Walsh, 2006). Given the central role of families and informal caregivers, it is critical to acknowledge their difficulties and needs to increase the effectiveness and scope of family interventions approaches (Vermeulen et al., 2015). Research indicates that effective support to informal caregivers enhance systemically the recovery of people with mental illness.
- Cyberbullying, anxiety, depression and stress among adolescentsPublication . Santos, Cecília Fernandes dos; Queirós, Cristina; Marques, AntónioCyberbullying is an aggressive intentional act carried out by a group/individual, using electronic forms of contact against a victim who cannot easily defend him/herself (Smith et al., 2008). It elicits depression/anxiety/stress that affect victims and perpetrators (Çetin et al., 2012), since their roles are less defined on online environments (Park, Na & Kim, 2014).
