- Gamification and storytelling enhancing successful wine and food tourism productsPublication . Liberato, Dália; Liberato, Pedro; Nunes, MartaThis research focuses on the proposed tourism offer gamification and storytelling in the Douro region. Currently, the use of games in the tourism sector is beginning to be a strategy applied in several destinations. However, the application of gamification to the tourism sector has not always been successful. There are shortcomings in travelers’ engagement due to the underestimation of tourism facts/events or resources of the regions. The main objective is to combine gambling with storytelling as part of wine and food tourism, to ensure greater tourist involvement. Gamification associated with storytelling can disseminate and enhance the tourism offer in a region, creating value in tourism experience. Considering the research methodology, it was considered relevant to implement a qualitative approach, using a focus group interview script, with residents, as well as the use of semi-structured interviews applied to Farms and the Douro Museum. The main results highlight the development of the region’s tourism resources, which are crucial in a process of international promotion, increasing tourism demand by proposing a game as a driver of tourism and gambling associated with storytelling, and a key element in involving the player, telling the story, and spreading the word about the destination. Studies and projects dealing with gamification and storytelling in tourism are unknown, particularly in low-density inland destinations, being crucial to propose projects on this topic, suitable to similar destination typologies.
- PMo11V@N-CNT electrochemical properties and its application as electrochemical sensor for determination of acetaminophenPublication . Fernandes, Diana M.; Nunes, Marta; Bachiller-Baeza, Belén; Rodríguez-Ramos, Inmaculada; Guerrero-Ruiz, Antonio; Delerue-Matos, Cristina; Freire, CristinaA polyoxometalate-nanocarbon composite, PMo11V@N-CNT, was prepared by a simple procedure which consisted of the immobilization of phosphovanadomolybdate (PMo11V) onto N-doped carbon nanotubes (N-CNT). The FTIR and XPS characterizations confirmed its successful synthesis. The cyclic voltammograms of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with PMo11V and PMo11V@N-CNT showed four Mo-centred redox processes (MoVI/V) and a vanadium redox process (VV/IV). All were surface-confined redox processes. Additionally, PMo11V@N-CNT/GCE showed good stability and well-resolved redox peaks with high current intensities. The electrocatalytic sensing properties of PMo11V@N-CNT/GCE towards acetaminophen (AC) in the presence of tryptophan (TRP) were evaluated by square wave voltammetry. Under the conditions used, the peak current increased linearly with AC concentration in the presence of TRP, with a linear range from 1.5 × 10−6 to 3.9 × 10−4 mol dm−3 and a detection limit of 1.0 × 10−6 mol dm−3.
- Sustainable destination development based on gamification and storytelling: empowering the Douro Region through wine and gastronomyPublication . Liberato, Dália; Liberato, Pedro; Nunes, Marta; Ferreira, AnaThe world of the vineyard is a world of stories. Just as we taste the wine, the gastronomy, and the landscape, we taste stories and each story, each one with its plot has its personalities, with which we identify, surprise, or learn. Peso da Régua and the Douro Region are a narrative that can be told through the game. One of the most innovative and interesting ways to transform the phases of a trip into unforgettable life experiences is through gamification. In an additional perspective to gamification, the theme of storytelling emerges. Destination storytelling is seen as a strategy to enhance the reputation of regions, the way in which municipalities and cultural organizations understand storytelling can have a significant impact on the success of a region. This research has as its main goal to analyze how gamification associated with storytelling can promote and enhance the tourism supply in a particular region, in this case, the city of Peso da Régua. A qualitative methodology was applied, through semi-structured interviews with representatives of four wine-producing farms, the representative of the Douro Museum, and the grandson of João de Araújo Correia, a well-known personality in Peso da Régua. The results are intended to be an important contribution to the valuation of the tourism resources of the region, determinant in an international promotion process, highlighting that gamification associated with storytelling can be a key element to involve the player, telling the story, and promoting the destination.
- Wine and food tourism gamification. Exploratory study in Peso da RéguaPublication . Liberato, Dália; Nunes, Marta; Liberato, PedroThe use of games in the tourism sector has been applied to an increasing number of tourism destinations. The objective of this research is to propose the creation of a digital game, using the storytelling, which allows to deepen the knowledge of the cultural and natural heritage about Peso da Régua. In defining the research methodology, it was considered appropriate to imple- ment the collection and analysis of primary data through a qualitative approach, using the focus group, with the objective of collecting information on cultural and natural heritage, identifying tourism resources based on wine production and gastronomy, as well as the most relevant characteristics of the region. The results presented show that telling the story about a tourism destination is an important element for gamification.
