- BIO4DIA: Early detection and monitoring of metabolic progression of type 2 diabetesPublication . Fernandes, R.; Luís, C.; Martins, P.; Macedo, J. M.; Guerreiro, S.; Baylina, PilarAccording to the latest International Diabetes Federation 2015 report, the total health expenditure with type 2 diabetes (T2D) spent globally was of 673 billion USD in 2015 and it expected that this effort increases up to 802 billion in 2040. Additionally, patients experienced a series of complications, ranging from eye, cardiovascular, and kidney disease as well as pregnancy complications, nerve damage, foot infections and impaired regeneration. Based on the most recent research in this area the cornerstone of treatment of T2D is the adoption of a healthy diet, increased physical activity and maintenance of a normal body weight and those are modifiable risk factors.
- Effects of emotional valence and three-dimensionality of visual stimuli on brain activation: an fMRI studPublication . Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Almeida, I.; Barbosa, F.; Castelo-Branco, M.; Guerreiro, S.; Almeida, I.; Reis, M.; Sousa, L. de; Castro Caldas, A.Examining changes in brain activation associated with emotion-inducing stimuli is essential to the study of emotions. Due to the ecological potential of virtual reality in neurocognitive rehabilitation, inspection of whether brain activation in response to emotional stimuli can also be modulated by the three-dimensional properties of the images is now important. This study sought to test whether the activation of brain areas involved in the emotional processing of scenarios of different valences can be modulated by three dimensionality. It focused on the interaction effect among emotion-inducing stimuli of different emotional valences (pleasant, unpleasant and neutral valences) and visualization types (2D, 3D).
- A new fMRI paradigm to study behavioral and neural bases of visual working memoryPublication . Dores, Artemisa Rocha; Barbosa, F.; Almeida, I.; Guerreiro, S.; Rocha, B.M.; Carvalho, I.P.; Marques, A.J.; Sousa, L.D.; Castro-Caldas, A.Working memory (WM) is a cognitive process that refers to storing information in a temporary system that allows monitoring and handling this information.
- Novos péptidos antioxidantes de rãs tropicais aumentam a resposta imune in vitro a células tumorais num ambiente hiperglicémicoPublication . Luís, C.; Duarte, M. F.; Cerqueira, S.; Faria, I.; Guerreiro, S.; LaFuente, J. M.; Soares, R.; Leite, J. R.; Fernandes, Rúben
