- Psicologia positiva através do engagement em estudantes de uma escola da Bahia, BrasilPublication . Bridi, Larissa; Queirós, Cristina; Marques, AntónioPositive psychology enabled the interest of less negative themes such as stress or burnout, allowing the emergence of concepts such as engagement as motivation for a task, namely on school settings. Engagement applied to students refers to the degree of vigor, dedication and absorption that students demonstrate related with school and learning. This study aims to identify engagement levels in high school students and in students of EJA Youth and Adult Education) from a school of Bahia, Brazil, and analyze the influence of individual variables. A sample of 697 students were inquired, aged 13 to 63 years (M = 17.6), being 85% of normative education and 15% of EJA, both from a public school, using the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (Schaufeli & Bakker, 2003; Porto-Martins & Benevides-Pereira, 2009). Most were women (53%), 70% were on exclusive student condition and 30% were student-workers. We found low values of vigor (63%) and absorption (57%), and elevated values of dedication (52%). Absorption levels presented the lowest average (M = 2.72) and dedication presented the higher (M = 3.85). Male students and female differed only in dedication, higher in female. Regarding vigor and absorption, student-workers presented higher average than exclusive students, and no differences were found comparing learninf model (EJA or normative students). The results alerts to the need to take care of these students, and to develop strategies to increase vigor and absorption levels, particularly among the normative school students who seem unmotivated with their learning tasks.
