Abstract(s)
Nowadays, with a market that is totally globalized, extremely competitive and rigorous, for a company to be successful, it is essential to eliminate waste. The Lean Manufacturing methodology and its tools has been the fundamental way for companies to achieve this result. Within the scope of this master's degree dissertation, carried out during the project developed at Gewiss Portugal, a production line was analyzed and opportunities were identified targeting the improvement in the production process, using the application of Lean methodology and tools. After analyzing the production process of the production line, proposals for improvement were suggested, and later progress was made with their implementation. With the application of the improvements, it was possible to eliminate two product movements to outside the line, reduce operator displacements, as decrease the workstation changes, in 65%. Additionally, we obtained a new layout where it was possible to place a test equipment, to validate the products, and we balance the tasks time in all workstations. These improvements translated into several gains in the productive process like a processing time reduction of 234s and a increasing of the capacity in 38%.
