Abstract(s)
participação e a inclusão social.
The history of humanity has been marked by several changes in the way of looking at mental illness, which evolved from exclusion and institutionalization to the current view contemplated in the National Mental Health Plan (National Coordination for Mental Health – CNSM, 2008) which it defends a community approach, with a view to the psychosocial rehabilitation of the person with experience in mental illness. This report reflects the development of the project “Psychosocial Rehabilitation in Mental Health: A holistic, participatory and community approach” developed at the Department of Mental Health of the Local Health Unit of Matosinhos, based on the Participatory Action-Investigation methodology and whose purpose was counteract the tendency towards isolation and promote the empowerment, participation and social inclusion of people with experience in mental illness, through a community-based and participatory intervention. The project, focusing on the difficulties of a group of people with experience in mental illness, allowed, through a psychosocial action in group and an individual psychosocial action, to enhance the development of skills and activate personal motivations for change, as well as the creation of a social support network that will help autonomy, participation, and social inclusion. Simultaneously, through a more thoughtful and person-centered intervention, it stimulated changes in the ways of looking at and intervening in this reality, bringing new reflections on the professionals' practices
