Abstract(s)
econômica no final do século XIX.
As
Agriculture in the municipality of Póvoa de Varzim was established as an economic activity in the late 19th century. In the parish of Aguçadoura, the cultivation technique was implemented in masseira fields. These agricultural lands serve to protect the action of strong winds coming from the sea, the famous nortada. The construction of the masseira fields was a decisive factor in the culture of the region, so much so that Aguçadoura farmers carry this story in their soul. Through this audiovisual work, named Valos, we sought to demonstrate the agricultural practices of local farmers in the masseira fields that still remain in the region and the relationship of the farmers with these fields and the history that is involved. Valos is presented in a format that combines photographic images and audio. The photographs were taken at the site in question, as well as the audio, which brings the testimonies and reports of these farmers to the surface. Through this junction, image and verbal text, a connection is established between representation and reality. Valos takes on a voice of its own, gaining the status of “representation” of the world, then it starts to have a unique presence in the world, when presenting arguments or transmitting its own points of view. Finally, this work is shown as an audio-visual document, allowing a perpetuation of the local memory, the masseira fields and their farmers.
