Abstract(s)
As a result of increasing competitiveness on a global level, organizations feel the growing need to distinguish by focusing on improving their products and services, as well their delivery times. At the same time, internally within organizations, there is a focus on increasing value chain efficiency by promoting value added activities to the product, while trying to eliminate or reduce those that do not add value. This work aims to assess the possibility of applying Kaizen-Lean methodologies in conjunction with Industry 4.0, in order to promote increased maintenance efficiency. This has arisen since increased maintenance efficiency leads to a higher OEE, which enables production to have its equipment working under the proper conditions for a longer percentage of time, thus leading to greater production efficiency and hence the supply chain value. A practical case of implementation of the connection of these methodologies was applied in a problematic engine of an organization, where the maintenance was performed on corrective mode and the control of its operation was done sporadically over time. In this way, a sensor was applied to the equipment, virtually allowing to observe constantly its condition, thus promoting the adoption of condition-based maintenance, thus eliminating waste related to machine shutdown due to malfunction, thus increasing efficiency at both maintenance and production.
