Abstract(s)
Small and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing sector account for 5.6% of the total number of companies in Portugal. It is in this group that FUTE SA is included, which like the other companies in this group has to have a orientation towards the arket, since the latter defines its requirements and the company has to respond effectively and quickly. This requires high product and production flexibility, which causes a number of problems in its implementation and application. This project aims to analyze the practical difficulties in manufacturing a wide range of different products and to combat them, making the process more lean and systematic. The objectives are to improve the utilization of productive space in the assembly ection of the company, reduce unproductive times and systematize key production information. In this work the DMAIC methodology was used to improve the mentioned aspects. For the first objective it was defined the initial state and calculated the current occupation as well as an analysis of the contribution to the success of the company of each assembly line. Then, through the PDCA methodology, an improvement plan was developed that went through the redesign of the manufacturing layout of the section. In the second objective, the same improvement methodology was followed, concluding that the company was weak in its technical component. The improvement went through the definition and characterization of the lines and the assembly process as well as a systematization of the specification of each customer. The results achieved resulted in a 18% increase in production through the reduction of unproductive time and a significant increase in occupation of the assembly lines.
