| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação consiste numa análise cultural da obra Red, White and Royal Blue, de Casey McQuiston. Para tal, irei apoiar-me na minha proposta de tradução, partindo da versão original em Língua Inglesa (Estados Unidos da América) para a Língua Portuguesa (Português Europeu) como língua de chegada. Partindo da análise à obra selecionada irei salientar a relevância da tradução cultural, enquanto espaço de reconhecimento contextual indispensável ao desenvolvimento de uma tradução literária. Esta dissertação apresenta uma estrutura contrastiva: evidenciados excertos retirados da obra original e a devida opção tradutiva em Língua Portuguesa. A obra categorizada como ficção, pela editora St. Martin’s Griffin, centra-se na personagem principal Ajandro Gabríel Claremont-Diaz, mais conhecido como Alex. Alex é um jovem norte-americano de vinte e um anos, mestiço, a mãe é Norte-America, do Estado do Texas e o pai é mexicano. Nesta realidade fictícia, a mãe, Ellen Claremont, é a primeira mulher presidente dos Estados Unidos da América. Alex interessa-se muito por política e acompanha a campanha eleitoral da mãe; a contextualização política e as particularidades da política norte-americana é um tema primário desta obra. Além da questão política, pela inerência materna, uma outra parte fundamental da narrativa é a relação entre Alex e o Príncipe de Inglaterra, Henry. A autora promove um estado de tensão entre as duas nações que se estende às duas personagens principais – Alex e Henry – conflito político e conflito pessoal. No casamento do irmão do Henry, uma catástrofe protagonizada pelos personagens principais conduz ao ‘twist’ narrativo: Alex e Henry são obrigados a fingir uma amizade, apenas por razões publicitárias, em benefício das relações diplomáticas entre as duas nações. Desta relação, inicialmente falsa, nasce uma verdadeira ligação entre os dois, e, posteriormente, uma história de amor. Assim sendo, podemos verificar que a temática LGBTQ+, nomeadamente, a homossexualidade, a bissexualidade e a identidade de género, também está bastante presente no livro de McQuiston e será, posteriormente, abordada nesta dissertação. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation consists of a cultural analysis of the novel Red, White and Royal Blue, by Casey McQuiston. I will base this study on my translation proposal, starting from the source text, the original version in American English to European Portuguese as the target language. Based on the analysis of the selected work, I will highlight the relevance of cultural translation, as a space of contextual recognition indispensable to the development of a literary translation. This dissertation presents a contrastive structure: excerpts taken from the original work and the due translation option in Portuguese Language are highlighted. This fiction novel, categorized by St. Martin's Griffin, focuses on the main character Alejandro Gabríel Claremont-Diaz, better known as Alex. Alex is a twenty-one-year-old, mixed-race young American man, his mother is North American, from the state of Texas and his father is Mexican. In this fictional reality, his mother, Ellen Claremont, is the first female president of the United States of America. Alex is very interested in politics and follows his mother's election campaign; the political contextualisation and the particularities of American politics is a primary theme of this work. In addition to the political issue, because of the maternal inherence, another key part of the narrative is the relationship between Alex and the Prince of England, Henry. The author promotes a state of tension between the two nations that extends to the two main characters - Alex and Henry - political conflict and personal conflict. At the wedding of Henry's brother, a catastrophe played out by the protagonists leads to the narrative 'twist': Alex and Henry are forced to fake a friendship, just for publicity reasons, for the benefit of diplomatic relations between the two nations. From this initially false relationship, a real bond is born between the two, and subsequently, a love story. Therefore, the LGBTQ+ theme, namely, homosexuality, bisexuality and gender identity, is also present in McQuiston's novel and, later on, will be addressed in this dissertation. | pt_PT |
