Abstract(s)
As PME demonstraram
The internationalization of Portuguese SMEs is increasingly important for their sustainable development, as the domestic market often proves insufficient to ensure long-term viability. These companies have progressively consolidated their role in the national economy, representing a significant portion of the business sector and contributing substantially to job creation and economic growth. This study aimed to identify the main challenges faced by Portuguese SMEs in the process of exporting products and services, as well as to analyze the strategies adopted to overcome such obstacles. Exporting was the central mode of internationalization considered, as it remains the most used approach among these firms. The research followed a qualitative and exploratory methodology, based on semi-structured interviews with three SMEs located in the district of Viana do Castelo. The study sought to understand their approach to foreign markets and the constraints they encounter. The results indicate that, although several barriers to internationalization persist, they do not constitute a decisive impediment. SMEs demonstrate resilience and adaptability, applying strategies that allow them to maintain and expand their presence in international markets.
